HOW TO PLAY
Little drops.
Lovely connections.
Meet a playful cast of zodiac animals in this charming drop puzzle. How many phantom cats will you find?
Bring matching friends together
Pick a lane and drop beside the same animal. Matching neighbors above, below, or beside you turn into the next zodiac animal!
Keep the chain going
Match the new animal with another of its kind to start a chain. Each extra link earns a bigger score bonus.
Welcome another cat
Completed cats leap out of the board into your collection. Use the space to meet your next friend.
Controls
Animals fall automatically from the center. Move them left or right while they fall to land beside a matching animal. A tap or click alone does not fast-drop the animal.
Phone & tablet
- Move between lanes
- Tap or swipe sideways
Tap the lane you want to move to, or swipe left or right to move between lanes.
- Fast drop
- Swipe down
Swipe down and lift your finger to drop the animal quickly. You cannot move sideways after a fast drop.
Mouse
- Move between lanes
- Click or drag sideways
Click the lane you want to move to, or hold the mouse button and drag sideways to move to the lane under the pointer.
- Fast drop
- Drag down
Hold the mouse button, drag down and release to drop the animal quickly. You cannot move sideways after a fast drop.
Keyboard
- Move between lanes
- ← →
Use the left and right arrow keys to move one lane at a time.
- Fast drop
- ↓ / Space
Use the down arrow or Space to fast-drop. Holding the key triggers only one drop. Release and press again to drop the next animal.
After starting or resuming, use the keys without clicking the board first.
Sideways movement and downward fast-drop use separate gestures. After moving sideways, lift your finger or release the mouse button before making a new downward swipe or drag.
- Watch the central entrance
- Each animal appears one row above the board. If the top center cell is occupied, you can still move sideways before entering. Letting it fall into the blocked center ends the game. Once inside the board, animals cannot move sideways through another animal at the same height.
- Landing guide & upcoming animals
- The faint animal and dashed outline show the predicted landing spot. Apart from the falling animal, two animals wait above the board: the larger one is next, and the smaller one to its right comes after it.
- A moment to adjust after landing
- After a normal fall, you can still move sideways briefly just after landing. A fast drop lands and locks in 100 ms. Once merging or a chain starts, wait until the next animal appears.
- Show on-screen controls
- Turn on “Show control buttons” in Game settings to display left, right and fast-drop buttons. They are off by default.
- Pause & resume
- Use the pause icon at the upper right. The board stays visible. Resume with the central “Resume” button or the resume icon at the upper right.
- Game settings & starting over
- The gear icon opens sound effects, BGM, helper numbers and movement-button settings. Choose “Start over” to begin a new game.
- Expand the game area
- Use the expand icon at the upper right to make the game area larger. Press it again to restore the normal view. On a computer, Esc also restores it.
- Return to the start screen
- Choose “End game” in Game settings or while paused to return to the start screen. If an unfinished save is available, “Continue game” resumes from the last saved turn.
About the two modes
Challenge
Aim for a high score by planning merges and chain reactions.
- Supports rankings. Compete with your score at game over.
- There are no divine orbs. Merge zodiac animals to meet a cat.
- Falling starts at a steady pace, then gradually speeds up as turns pass, whether or not you have met a cat.
Cat Collection
Enjoy meeting cats with a little help from divine orbs.
- Not ranked. Your score and the cats you meet are saved in your personal records.
- The pace stays steady until you meet your first cat. It then gradually speeds up, but stops at a gentler pace than Challenge.

The Phantom Cat
A little magic beyond the zodiac. Every new cat joins your collection.
Transformation and chain rules
Matching animals connected up, down, left or right are pulled into the merge point together, including animals farther along a row or around a corner. Each absorbed animal changes the tile into the next animal in the sequence. Diagonal-only connections do not count. Completed cats leave the board, and gravity can continue the chain.
Score
Each merge scores the new tile value (2 to the power of its stage) times the combo multiplier, rounded down. Simultaneous merges that would go beyond the cat also earn the higher value: three boars give a base score of 16,384, and four give 32,768. You still meet just one cat. Combo multipliers rise without a cap: 1, 2, 3, and so on, reaching 10 at chain 10. Animals appear in the central entry row above the board. If the top cell is occupied, move sideways before entering the board or the game ends.
Saving your game
Saved automatically after each chain. The last five games are shown separately for each mode, and unfinished games can be resumed from history. Starting a new game preserves unfinished games within those last five entries. Continue, resuming from history, and reloading display the beginning of the saved turn, paused. Check the board, then press Resume to start moving. Prototype records are unofficial and local only.
A little history: from 2048 to Phantom Cat
- 2048
- 2048 Drop
- The Phantom Cat
One of this game’s roots is 2048, released in March 2014 by Italian developer Gabriele Cirulli. It is a puzzle about combining equal numbers into larger ones: 2, 4, 8, 16 and beyond. 2048 itself also followed earlier games such as 1024! and Threes!.
Falling-tile variations such as 2048 Drop add dropping to that pleasure of combining matching pieces. Instead of sliding the whole board, you choose where to drop each piece and set up merges and chain reactions.
Phantom Cat is our take on that 2048 Drop-style play. Zodiac animals replace the numbers, connected groups are absorbed from all four directions, and completed cats leave the board. Enjoy the satisfying chains and see how many cats you can meet.
